Ancestral Messages

Stones Speak Too

I have a new mosaic series called Ancestral Messages currently on display at Art On Main in Murphys, CA from June - September 2018. I have used air dry clay to create faces then painted them with acrylic paint. I have also painted designs on rocks to include in my mosaics. I wanted to find a way to create a new mosaic expression. I have been very interested in my connection with the women of my family who have passed, my ancestors. I may not know but a few of them but I carry them all within me. I have some of their memories in my bones, and in the way that I am. I also am very interested in the native, tribal and medicine ways of the indigenous people on this earth. I honor all ancestors and their ancient ways through these compositions. I imagine that there are messages for me almost everywhere I look that may include ancient voices. We are forever and in so many ways influenced by those who came before us as we will influence those that come after us. Through the ages we have sought to connect to tribal and ancestral wisdom through story, ritual and art. These mosaics are an expression of me seeking to connect with symbols, color and my imagination and hoping it inspires the viewer to want to connect too.
